The New York Liberty have suffered a major blow heading into the final stretch of the 2026 WNBA season.
Liberty forward Satou Sabally will miss the remainder of the 2026 season, including the playoffs, as she continues to recover from a head injury suffered June 23 against the Las Vegas Aces.
Sabally has been sidelined since the June matchup after taking a blow to the head and face while competing for a rebound. She attempted to return to the game but ultimately exited after playing just eight minutes.
The injury marked Sabally’s second significant concussion in less than a year. She previously suffered a concussion during the 2025 WNBA Finals while playing for the Phoenix Mercury.
The three-time All-Star appeared in only 13 games during her first season with New York, averaging 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game, while shooting 45.9% from the field and 38.5% from three-point range.
Sabally stepped away from the Liberty in August to focus on her recovery. She also announced that she would miss the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany, choosing to prioritize her health and full recovery.
The Liberty entered the World Cup break at 24-16 and have already secured a playoff spot. But they will now have to make their postseason push without one of their most important offseason additions.
Sabally’s long-term health will now take priority as she continues her recovery.
